Promote Responsible Investments & End Fraud and Abuse

The Secretary of State serves as the Georgia Commissioner of Securities. As Secretary of State, I will ensure that fraudulent investments neither start in Georgia nor victimize the citizens of Georgia.

Protecting Our Citizens 

I will work with local security brokers to ensure that our banks and brokers are in full compliance with state and federal law.  We cannot afford to have a local version of Bernie Madoff in our midst.

Making Sure Our Banks Are Stable

Protection of citizens means helping support access to credit.  As federal financial regulations take effect, I will work to ensure that Georgia law is fair and balanced with respect to banks and banking.  As the economy turns around, we must maintain an open flow of credit if we are to recover.

Standing Up for Victims of Fraud

From mortgage fraud to investor fraud, every blemish on our financial system harms our ability to attract new residents and new businesses.  I will create a Consumer Fraud Prevention Unit to host seminars and events across the state to help our citizens spot and combat financial scams. I will also expand the Consumer Protection function to include a cross-jurisdiction Consumer Fraud Response Unit that works with other agencies to help victims of fraud. From corresponding with the Attorney General to connecting an elderly victim to DHS when her life savings have been stolen, Georgia cannot afford not to cooperate across jurisdictions.
